Use System Prompts

A system prompt is a set of standing instructions for one chat: the role the AI plays, the tone and language it uses, what it should and shouldn't do. The model follows it in every reply of that chat. This page shows how to add one and how it relates to agents and tasks.

Add a system prompt to a chat​

  1. Open a chat, or start a new one.
  2. Click Add System Prompt at the top of the chat.
  3. In the System Prompt dialog, type your instructions in the box.
  4. Click Update to apply them to this chat.

Other buttons in the dialog:

  • Library: insert a prompt from your prompt library instead of typing it.
  • Clear: empty the box.
  • Cancel: close the dialog without changes.

For example, Alex could use this system prompt for client updates:

You write for a freelance web designer. Client emails are friendly, under 100 words,
have a clear subject line and end with one question the client can answer quickly.

Reuse prompts from the Library​

More → Library → Prompts holds preset prompts sorted by category (for example Content Writing, Outreach & Sales, SEO & Growth) and the prompts you save yourself. Click New prompt, give it a Title and the Prompt content, and it's ready to import with the Library button in the System Prompt dialog. See Prompt library.

System prompts, agent instructions and task rules​

The same idea appears in three places:

  • Agent instructions can be filled in with Import from prompt library. See Create a custom agent.
  • When a task is Done by an Agent, "System prompt, tools, and Skills are provided by the selected Agent. Choose Model if you need to customize them."
  • If you set up a chat that works and want to repeat it, save it as a task and check its Rules to always follow on the Config tab. See Save a chat as a task.
