Use Preset Tools
Tools let the AI do things and reach other services: search the web, read your files, run code, make images, or work in apps such as Notion and GitHub. ConsoleX comes with about 120 preset tools. This page shows you how to find them, set up the ones that need your account, and use them in chats and tasks.
Browse the preset tools
Click … (More) in the left rail, then Capabilities, and stay on the Tools tab. Tools are grouped by what they do:

More tools are listed under More tools at the bottom of the page. Use the search box, or the filters Preset, Ready to use, Needs setup, Connected and Starred, to find what you need. Click the star on a card to keep a tool you use often in the Starred filter.
Set up tools that need your account
Tools marked Ready to use work right away. Others need your own account or key, which you connect once on the card and then use in every chat and task:
- Connect signs you in to services such as Notion and GitHub. Use an API token instead lets you paste a token.
- Add key opens a dialog for your key, for example Connect Airtable. Enter the key and click Save. It is "Used only for your conversations and tasks, and never shown again after saving."
- Use my own key appears on some ready-to-use tools, such as Perplexity, Google Maps and Transcribe audio, if you'd rather use your own account.
After you connect, the card shows Connected.
Pro tools
Cards marked Pro show Upgrade to use. Pro tools, such as Slack, Tavily search and Generate video, are available on the Pro and Max plans only. Generate video is also marked as higher cost. See Membership.
Turn tools on in a chat
A new chat starts with your default capabilities (7 tools out of the box). To change them for this chat:
- Under the message box, click Tools (the number shows how many are on). You can also click + and choose More tools (Ctrl+Shift+U).
- In the Apply to this conversation panel, switch tools on or off. Use In use to see what's on, or Disable all tools to turn them all off.
- To make every reply call one of the selected tools, turn on Require the model to use these tools. Leave it off to let the model decide.
"Changes here apply only to this chat." Manage Tools at the bottom opens Capabilities in a new tab, so you can connect a service without losing your draft.

Turn tools on in a task or agent
- Task: in the new task wizard (step 1 What to do) or on the task's Config tab, go to What to work from → Capabilities and click Add capabilities. Templates add the tools they need for you; you can adjust them. A template that needs a Pro tool or a connection tells you so before you save.
- Agent: in the agent editor, click Add capabilities in the Capabilities section. See Create a custom agent.
What tools cost
Some preset tools are free; others are billed per use from your plan allowance, then Credits. Failed tool calls are not charged, and a tool you turn off is no longer used, even in a reply that is already running. See Preset tool pricing for how each tool is billed.
